This small hand woven tapestry is part of an ongoing series of weavings made from fibres solar dyed with tea.
Made from dk weight wool solar dyed with roobidos and English Breakfast tea, along with fringeing and details made from artisan yarn.
As the fibres sit in the dye pot for many days, the sun gently heats and infuses the tea, and the natural tannins fix the colour to the wool. Alum is used as a mordant to help along the process.
The tapestry measures 8.5 cm wide and 14.5 cm long. It is approx 33 cm including the fringing at the bottom.
I have carefully stitched the finished weaving to a little piece of tree branch I found in the forest, so it is all ready to hang up.
I am always open to accept commissions, so if you have a favourite tea you would like made into a tapestry, please get in touch!
